Martha Nixon

Discovering the joys of an art practice in 2003, after a long public service career, Martha works in mixed media and encaustics. She loves to create using texture, colour and shape, often in ways that are abstract or non-objective, always working intuitively, letting the art happen.

 

Martha has exhibited with the Ottawa Mixed Media Association (OMMA) She began exhibiting her art at Art Credo and with other artists at an annual Christmas show. Since 2012, Martha has been part of a Christmas Boutique to raise funds for Hospice Care Ottawa. Her work has been displayed at the Crichton St Gallery and for many years, the Galerie Old Chelsea, where you will still find her unique art cards and some small paintings. Martha is part of the autumn New Edinburgh Studio Tour.

 

Martha loves to be a weekly volunteer with the art program at Hospice Care Ottawa. She has also given workshops and demonstrations, sharing her passion with encaustics and acrylics and mixed media.

 

Martha’s cards are made from pieces of art she has created on paper.  Some are paintings, some are prints.  Each one is unique and an original piece of signed art, not photographs.  These are popular as hostess gifts, as small, framed works or just as a great card to send to a special someone.  Large (5 x 7") cards are 10, small (3.5 x 5”) cards are $5.
